Coyotes President & CEO Xavier Gutierrez pens the latest op-ed for SBJ to coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month, writing under the header, "Sports world can lead the way with influence and impact."
Gutierrez: "Business terms go in and out of favor, and the preferred jargon for 'giving back' has included a carousel of catchy terms. In the past decade alone, prevailing phrases included philanthropy, charitable donations, corporate social responsibility, and more. But each of these leave something to be desired because they refer to the entity doing the 'giving,' and not the more important part of the equation: the positive effect on a recipient.
With that in mind, I have long been a champion of Impact, which describes societal results from an individual or company. In my experience, Impact also entails tangible change, rather than just a proverbial box to check for PR spin. True Impact is felt when an organization cares deeply about an issue, works diligently toward a concrete goal, and innovates along the way."
