With ESL Pro entry now done, FURIA eyeing U.S. opportunities

Getting admitted to the ESL Pro League means big business for three new teams that came in last week, as ESL Pro is arguably the most valuable membership structure a team can participate in within the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ecosystem, writes SBJ's Trent Murray. Valve, which makes CS:GO, doesn't have an official CS:GO league. CSL Pro provides a revenue share program and access to business opportunities for members.

Brazil-based FURIA is one of the new ESL Pro squads, and CEO Jaime Pádua is extremely bullish on what entry can mean for this organization. “Many still have no idea how big this achievement is," he said. "For the first time in the history of (esports), we will have a Brazilian team sitting at the table on equal terms with the largest organizations in the world."

Pádua also commented on the expansion of FURIA in the U.S scene, having recently created a social media channel named “FURIA USA." The team also signed the American Super Smash Bros. player Griffin “Fatality” Miller and announced an American lineup for Nintendo's Apex Legends game. “Constant evolution is the essence of FURIA DNA," said Pádua. "We want to always evolve, challenge our limits every day, and dream big every night. In this context, the expansion of our brand in the international market seems to us to be a natural movement.”

The movement by FURIA to export its brand is something that goes the opposite way of what is usually observed in the Brazilian esports market. In recent years, the country has seen investment from international brands, such as TSM FTX, Team Liquid and Ninjas in Pyjamas, but it is extremely rare to see Brazilian organizations move the other direction and out of the country. The pace of this new expansion will be accelerated soon. “A mission we don't want to postpone any longer,” Pádua said.
