Slinger acquires PlaySight, continues growth phase

By Bret McCormick

Connected sports company Slinger has acquired PlaySight Interactive for an estimated $82M, the most recent purchase during a growth spurt for the maker of the Slinger Bag portable tennis ball launcher. The PlaySight acquisition will bring a recurring revenue stream and new content subscribers to Slinger, while enhancing Slinger’s research and development and AI capabilities. PlaySight launched its subscription-based SmartCourt video tech platform initially for tennis, but it is now used across many sports.

PlaySight is Slinger’s third acquisition in recent months  as it grows out a suite of what CEO Mike Ballardie called “watch, play, and learn” solutions. By acquiring Gameface.AI and Foundation Tennis, Slinger expanded its offerings into a service-as-a-software business platform, streaming video/production and AI. Dechert LLP and Naschitz, Brandes, Amir & Co. are serving as advisors to Slinger, which has received investment from the likes of Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Pete Sampras and Novak Djokovic. Sullivan & Triggs LLP, Shiffer, Schneider and Co. and MJ Hudson are serving as advisors to PlaySight.
