Steinberg Sports enters basketball with AMG merger

By Rick Ellington

Steinberg Sports & Entertainment is expanding into the basketball representation space after merging with Athlete Management Group. AMG co-Founders Mike Silverman and Brandon Grier will take on new titles as part of the transaction; Silverman will serve as SSE Senior VP/Basketball Operations and Grier will be VP/Team Sports. Silverman will continue to be based in L.A., while Grier is staying in AMG’s Detroit office. Heat C Dewayne Dedmon and Univ. of Toledo G Ryan Rollins, who today declared for the NBA Draft, are among the list of AMG clients.

SSE CEO Chris Cabott said it has been a goal of the agency to “bring in different verticals and talent representation” that extend beyond just football. He said of Silverman and Grier, “They do things the right way, and that’s what has been the thing at Steinberg Sports.” Merging with AMG may not be the only transaction in the near future for SSE, as Cabott hinted at more deals to come. “I said on Instagram at the start of the year that growth was important for us, and I meant what I said.”
