Sources: Mayweather team eyes Daytona 500 spot

By Adam Stern

The Money Team Racing, the long-aspiring NASCAR team affiliated with Floyd Mayweather, is working to try to finalize a deal to enter next month's Daytona 500 as its first race, according to sources. The team first became known as trying to establish itself in ’19, and it’s a partnership between Mayweather’s The Money Team brand and NASCAR industry executive Willy Auchmoody, who licensed the TMT brand from Mayweather and has been working closely with the boxer’s business team to try to find sponsorship.

The team is now believed to have secured a Next Gen car, sponsor and a driver in Kaz Grala for the race, so it appears close to an official announcement. The team has worked to license the No. 50 from NASCAR to use on its car to match Mayweather’s famous 50-0 record in boxing. Mayweather entering NASCAR would be the latest in a string of celebrities coming into the sport as owners, alongside the likes of Michael Jordan and Pitbull. The Daytona 500 is on Feb. 20 on Fox.
