Sports themes prominent at GOP retreat

The ongoing House Republican retreat in Orlando has featured several moments highlighting the influence of college sports on politics. Today, former White House press secretaries Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Ari Fleischer covered the "value of preparation for media interviews," and they "played clips of athletes and coaches meeting the press." Featured coaches represented Auburn Univ. and the Univ. of Kansas. Earlier in the three-day gathering, former college football coach and ESPN analyst Lou Holtz spoke to Republicans. Holtz was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Donald Trump (POLITICO.com, 3/26).
