The Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio will return to South Florida in '22. It had been 31 years since an official LPGA event "had been held in Boca Raton when the inaugural Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio was held" in '20. But the event was "shifted to Lake Nona in Orlando this year because of COVID-19 concerns." The tournament is "expected to be the second" on next year’s LPGA schedule, "following the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions in Lake Buena Vista." The return of Gainbridge LPGA "means all three major tours have an event in Palm Beach County" (PALM BEACH POST, 9/14).
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour Zozo Championship "will be held in Japan as planned" next month, after "fears it could be moved for the second year running because of the coronavirus pandemic." Last year's tournament was moved to California, and there had been "speculation it could be relocated again this year, after the other two tournaments" on the PGA Tour's Asian swing "fell victim to the pandemic." The CJ Cup, which begins Oct.14, "has been moved from South Korea to Las Vegas," while Shanghai's World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions, scheduled for Oct. 28-31, "has been cancelled for the second successive year" (AFP, 9/14).
