NBC Sports draws its second-best Premier League season

By Austin Karp

NBC Sports had its second-best season yet for Premier League games, averaging 507,000 viewers across NBC, NBCSN, USA Network and CNBC. That’s behind only the 516,000 viewers that NBC Sports averaged in '15-16 (NBC picked up rights to the league before the '13-14 season). The '21-22 campaign is up 21% from 414,000 viewers last season. The gains came amid a switch halfway through the season for the bulk of cable TV games to USA after NBCSN was shut down at the end of ’21. There were 12 games that topped 1 million viewers on NBC outlets this season -- a record for NBC Sports. Manchester City secured its EPL championship over the weekend against Aston Villa, with NBC averaging 955,000 viewers. That figure is the best game yet for Championship Sunday. USA Network also averaged 681,000 viewers for Liverpool-Wolverhampton, marking the best Championship Sunday audience yet on cable TV. Earlier in the season on Aug. 28, NBC drew 1.4 million viewers for Chelsea-Liverpool, which is the best live EPL match yet on U.S. airwaves. D.C. led all U.S. markets for EPL games this season, followed by Norfolk, Cincinnati, Philadelphia and Raleigh-Durham.
