Words + Pictures, the content studio founded by former ESPN exec CONNOR SCHELL, announced its exec team. They include former ESPN VP & Exec Producer LIBBY GEIST as Exec VP & Head of Documentaries, and Emmy award-winning producer AARON COHEN as Exec VP & Head of Development. Other hires include MICHAEL NEWBURGER as Senior VP/Strategy, Finance & Ops; CORA ATKINSON as Supervising Producer; and MARIE MARGOLIUS as VP/Documentaries (Words + Pictures).

ON THE MOVE: USA Cycling Chief Commercial Officer BOUKER POOL has departed the organization. Pool had been at USA Cycling since August '19 and oversaw the addition of 13 new corporate partners. In a text, Pool said that he does not have "immediate plans" for his next career step. USA Cycling President & CEO ROB DEMARTINI also left the NGB last month (Chris Smith, SBJ).

EXECS: FC Dallas named Lexicon Services CMO JEROME ELENEZ VP/Marketing. Elenez had previous stops with the Cowboys, Mavericks and McDonald’s (FC Dallas)....The Marlins promoted Dir of Baseball Operations ADRIAN LORENZO to Senior Dir of International Operations, replacing FERNANDO SEGUIGNOL in the role (MIAMI HERALD, 1/13)....Inter Miami named JULIAN HAIGH Dir of Sport Science; TOM JOBE Dir of Fitness & Rehabilitation; and SILAS WASZCZUK Sports Performance Specialist (Inter Miami)....ESPN Manager of Corporate Communications SHAKEEMAH SIMMONS-WINTER has left the network for a new yet-to-be-announced role. SBJ Spotlight: TikTok’s threat to traditional sports media

While tech companies are consumed with finding ways to compete with TikTok, almost no one in conventional media “spends any time talking about it,” said Recode senior correspondent Peter Kafka in an Spotlight interview with SBJ’s John Ourand. “To me, that’s just an obvious disconnect.” Kafka authored a recent column headlined, “It’s TikTok’s world. Can TV live in it?” He said the main response to TikTok’s growth from traditional media execs has been to “punt and hope it’s someone else’s problem a quarter from now or two years from now.” But Kafka said that ignores the trend of conventional broadcast audiences growing older while a billion younger consumers spend most of their media time watching short video after short video. “If you’re in the business of getting anyone under the age of 30 to look at what you’re putting on a screen, you have to think about the fact that you’re probably asking them to put down TikTok and watch your thing instead,” said Kafka. “That’s a very difficult ask. … [TikTok] is insanely addictive.”
