Speedway Motorsports has promoted Chief Strategy Officer MIKE BURCH to COO, giving the right-hand man of President & CEO MARCUS SMITH a more prominent title to reflect his increasingly expansive role at the company. The track operator is entering an important era in many regards as in recent years it has refreshed its track president ranks, bought Dover Motorsports and is eyeing a deal to operate Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. It also has been experimenting with promoting a major NASCAR event at a venue it is only renting in Circuit of the Americas. Burch has long helped SM in a variety of areas after joining in ‘03 including sponsorship sales, industry relations and overall strategy. Meanwhile, the track operator also promoted Bristol Motor Speedway Exec VP & GM JERRY CALDWELL to president of the Tennessee venue. Caldwell, who had been GM since ’10, also is the lead exec trying to finalize SM’s bid to operate the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, an effort that has now stretched over multiple years as the local political process plays out there (Adam Stern, SBJ).

EXECS: The NHL Kings named MARC BERGEVIN Senior Adviser to VP & GM ROB BLAKE (MONTREAL GAZETTE, 1/9)....Prudential Center and the Devils named STEPHEN ROSEBROOK Exec VP and GM of the venue. Rosebrook had been a regional VP with AEG Facilities. He will report to Devils and Prudential Center President JAKE REYNOLDS (Devils)....The Astros added two new Assistant GMs, SCOTT POWERS and ANDREW BALL, and Dir of Player Development SARA GOODRUM to "bolster" GM JAMES CLICK's front office. The trio represents Click's "most influential hires since arriving to the Astros in February 2020" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 1/9)....JOHN OLGUIN, a former senior exec at Chip Ganassi Racing and the Dodgers, has opened his own sports consulting firm called JOSports Strategy. The firm will specialize in consulting with sports organizations and brands to create and execute business strategies in the areas of communications/PR, marketing, digital, partnership activation and sales (SBJ).
