Coyotes to broadcast 13 games in Spanish through remainder of season

NFL Cardinals Spanish language play-by-play announcer Luis Hernandez tonight will call the "first Coyotes game to be broadcast in Spanish on radio," with 12 more "scheduled in Spanish after that," according to Jose Romero of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Phoenix-area KHOV-FM will broadcast 13 Coyotes games over the remainder of the '21-22 NHL season as part of a partnership between the Coyotes and Univisión Arizona to "broadcast a Coyotes Game of the Week in Spanish." KHOV also carries D-backs and Cardinals games in Spanish. The Coyotes have "never broadcast games in Spanish." But President & CEO Xavier A. Gutierrez "sought to change that," among the "many moves he and the team have made to be authentic and innovative in the Latino community in the Valley and throughout the state." In Hernandez, the Coyotes looked for a "high-caliber announcer who was trusted, well-liked and engaging," someone the Spanish-speaking audience could "relate to and connect with." The Blackhawks, Golden Knights, Kings and Panthers are "doing some if not all games in Spanish on radio this season" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 1/4).
