Patriots to bring back popular "Pat Patriot" throwback uniform

The Patriots’ red throwback uniform -- complete with the white helmet featuring the old "Pat Patriot" logo -- was "just about officially confirmed to make its return on Friday morning," when the Patriots HOF Twitter account "replied to an inquiry about a throwback jersey coming back once per season," according to Steve Hewitt of the BOSTON HERALD. The Patriots have not worn those jerseys since '12 because of an NFL rule that "restricted teams from changing their helmets during the season." But the league "decided to rescind the one-helmet rule this summer, paving the way for the return of throwback uniforms" (BOSTON HERALD, 12/4). NBC SPORTS BOSTON's Darren Hartwell noted the Pats brought back "the popular 'Pat Patriot' uniform -- red jersey, white pants and white helmet with the team's original Pat Patriot logo" -- four times in '09 to "commemorate the 50th anniversary of the AFL." The club is 9-3 all-time in the red throwbacks (, 12/3).
