Bucks using championship to increase their brand internationally

The Bucks took steps during their NBA championship run to become a larger global brand by using the international media present to their benefit. Bucks Chief Communications Officer Barry Baum during an appearance on “The PRWeek Podcast” said the Finals were a “great opportunity for the home team to really promote their city.” The team tried to “utilize as many of our leaders as we could” during that time due to the amount of international media around. Baum: “It was a constant stream of promoting the city of Milwaukee and the arena and the excitement about the Deer District, how we would have 20,000-25,000 fans outside of our arena watching games on a big screen, and that became a major story.” He added, “You can’t really buy coverage like that worldwide, and the NBA is one of the most popular sports in the world, so we took advantage of that” (“The PRWeek Podcast,” PRWeek.com, 9/2).
