SBJ Atlas: Athlete NIL deals on display at football season openers

Michael Cupello

Alabama sophomore QB Bryce Young makes his first college start Saturday against Miami, but he’s had a busy summer already, signing NIL endorsements that ESPN has reported total more than $800,000. Young’s brand portfolio includes Cash App, Leaf, Onyx and Wild Card. His Miami counterpart, QB D’Eriq King, sports as many as six publicly announced deals, touting well-known brands such as BioSteel and Panini America, as well as a unique deal with the NHL Panthers as a social media brand ambassador and merchandise developer. In the second SEC-ACC matchup on Saturday, both Georgia QB JT Daniels and Clemson QB D.J. Uiagalelei have deals with Candy Digital, and will also be representing QSR competitors Zaxby’s (Daniels) and Bojangles (Uiagalelei). Keep an eye out for Uiagalelei’s first feature in the '21 Dr Pepper "Fansville" commercial series, a deal he signed Aug. 11.
