Aussie Open memo leak could set back vax talks

The leaked WTA memo on vaccine mandates at the Australian Open could "provide a setback" to Tennis Australia's "negotiations with the federal and Victorian governments to grant a handful of exemptions for unvaccinated players," according to sources. Those talks "were progressing," the sources said. Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews on Monday said that the decision on whether to let unvaccinated players into the country "ultimately rested with the Commonwealth government" (THE AGE, 10/25).

Australian tennis player Ash Barty when asked why so many players on tour appeared to be anti-vaccine, said, You’ll have to ask them. It’s a much talked about subject." Barty, who is vaccinated, added, "I have to abide by the rules like everyone else. ... You want to see the strongest field possible. But we’re not quite sure what the requirements are going to be. At the moment, it’s too hard to know what the Australian Open is going to look like" (THE AGE, 10/25).
